Thanks to the yelp review, we are on family vacay and my son wanted to go to a bar that has TVs, so he can watch NCAA final 4. Within the family, there are seafood lover and non-seafood eater, so looking for a place to please everyone isn't easy at the place where we are not familiar with. With yelp's review, we took a chance like I always do to try the "hole in a wall" place. Guess what?! I'm so glad I did it. At first, my husband didn't think they will let our teenager son to eat there cause it's a bar! Then after talking to the waiter/bartender, we are good :) This bar is very small, but it has almost everything! On the menu, they have chicken, burger, fresh seafood, you know the normal bar food. The bar has variety of bottled beer and happy hours ends at 7 pm. I originally wanted Mahi mahi, but the waiter told me that the chief wasn't happy about the look of it and decide not to cook that dish for the night, instead grouper is better. So I was very glad that they suggested the changes to me. Since I love blacken fish so much, that's what I had tonight. It sure was spicy! The salad was very fresh, with some dried cranberries and the house dressing, it was perfect! My mom had grilled shrimps, and the shrimps were pretty big in size and she couldn't finish it all. My husband had chicken fingers as usual with a side of fries, and my teenager boy had a hamburger with fries. Both of them were so happy with the food, especially the fries!! My husband is our "fries expert", and for him to say how good the fries were at this place, it must be good!! If you ever come to Hilton Head, stop by this place. It doesn't look like a place that will have such wonderful food, but it is a diamond in the rough!! We were all very satisfied with our food and service! If we don't know where we are going for lunch or dinner in the next few days, we might just hit back there for some good stuff

Revisited Beach Break last week. Sadly, they no longer offer fish tacos. Also sad to say they have chosen another type of fish for their fish bites. The bites now utilize a south asian farm raised freshwater fish called Swai. While tasty, im not sure I really want to put alot of the fish into my body. To the owner: Please switch to domestic farm raised catfish if no other option is profitable. The service was still great though.

We (my wife and I) were looking for a local seafood joint that wasn't going to break the bank. What We walked into was a local watering hole. It is great for what it is, but not a seafood joint. We thoroughly enjoyed our rum and cokes before heading to another restaurant for seafood. If I lived on HHI, I would frequent The Beach Break after work before heading home!

Great break from the other restaurants around the Isle. More bar than restaurant, but they have several tables. Server / bartender was great and gave us recommendations that the cook thought we'd like. Overall, good warm feel.

HOLY SHIT... Burgers are so delicious! Nice little dive bar to chill at! They've won me over with the fries and the beef burgers. Abdolutely delicious! I will definitely come back here! Plus, I'm tired of shelling out $50+ for lunch & dinner!

Worst meal we have ever had at HHI in countless years of coming here. Our fried shrimp was cooked with the shell still on the shrimp! So was our blackened shrimp. The house speciality Spinach dip was nothing more than cream cheese, Lipton French onion soup mix and frozen spinach. Service was very slow.

If you like no frills, awesome food and a great price, then this is a place you want to check out while relaxing at HHI. The cook may work another day job, but you'll be glad she keeps her evening one. My wife and I had to wait a little before the kitchen was ready, but the bar tender/ server kept us accommodated. Yes, it's a bar and hang out for the "locals". But if you like fishing, ESPN and liquid spirits, then the wait speeds by quickly. Okay, what about the food. Our server suggested fish bites with tartar and a spicy Caribbean Sauce on the side. Awesome. The salads were man sized portions and tasty. Some iceberg mixed with other greens, etc. My petite wife ordered local fried shrimp with onion rings. I had the blackened grouper with black beans and rice. Both entrees were cooked to perfection. Again, the portions were more than enough. Our bill: Appetizers, salads, entrees and two sodas - with tip $42. Can't ask for anything better at HHI. Check it out when here!

When I read through their profile, they had me at 'Ambience: Divey'. When on vacation, I want to go where the locals go and this is exactly what I was looking for. Good food, good drinks and good value. Feeding a family of five can get expensive but BBG was a welcome break for my wallet. We ordered burgers based on a prior review and they hit the spot as advertised. The best part of our experience at BBG was Matty. He took great care of us and gave us tips (along with suggestions from other regulars) on what we should do while in HHI on vacation and what was worth skipping. This is why I love places like BBG, because of the friendly folks who work and frequent them make it a great experience as well as the great value. We'll definitely be back to BBG!

Found this on yelp and thought why not give it a try! It was excellent! Great blackened fish tacos and blackened shrimp nachos! Not very kid friendly ( we have a 21 month old) but he managed and ate like a champ. We will be seating here again before the end of the week and will come back anytime we are in town! It is a total locals' spot and as we all know are always the best!

Great local dive/biker bar... but don't let that intimidate you from coming here. It was one of very best hamburgers I've had in a long time. Amazing low prices and in addition we thoroughly enjoyed the bartender/ waiter Liam who was very friendly and personable. Highly recommended and definitely will be going back there next time we come to the island. Yum!

Super great service. Both Liam and Pam went out of their way to introduce themselves and check in - that makes ALL of the difference. The food was great - our kid had the mozzarella stocks and hobby had the fish tacos ( that I mooches off of). Highly recommend.

This is a local's bar for sure, but they were friendly and accepting! :) My husband and I both got 1/2 lb burgers for $6 each. You can do add ons for just a little bit extra. We also got a soft pretzel with cheese for $3. Everything was really good and the price was just right! Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you have to spend like you're on vacation.

I love hole in the wall places that are off the beaten path when on vacation and this place is definitely that. I don't think many visitors come here, it seems to be a lot of locals. It's true that its primarily a bar, but there is one separate room with one big table that we always take, so it works wonderfully with the kids because they don't bother anyone else. The food is usually great. I took off one star because I ordered the grouper sandwich the last time I was there and it was very fishy (like it was old). When I told the waitress she tried to tell me that it wasn't.

We stumbled across this place while trying to find somewhere to eat dinner. Most other places were totally booked up, and this was the closest place we could find. We walked in and were immediately intimidated. This was definitely a local's place. Everyone turned to look at us but were immediately very welcoming and invited us over to sit at the bar with everyone. A regular there bought us a round of drinks, and everyone was very interested in what brought us down to the area. We talked with everyone for a while and ordered some seafood. They had just gotten a new chef so the menu was sort of out of order, but I ordered blackened shrimp and rice and my friends got fish and chips. I don't normally eat seafood, but I figured, when in Rome, eh? I was blown away by the food. It was totally delicious and super cheap. We left full, happy, and with a whole bar full of new friends.

Great hole in the wall place! Known mostly to locals, we had a bit of hesitation as our party of 5 walked in to the small restaurant. Much to our delight, the food was perfect, and our waitress (a lovely blonde woman) was super helpful and got us everything we needed. The onion rings were to die for and the house onion dressing was perfect. Absolutely come here if you're in the mood for some well-priced, quality Hilton Head eats.

I went to the beach break grille because I believe in the "eat where the locals eat" philosophy. I read a few yelp reviews and I thought I had found a good spot for me and my family to have dinner. Well I wish I would have read a few more reviews before driving all the way there. Particularly the ones that mention this restaurant having only one highchair! Unfortunately a very nice looking family had beaten us to it and had only started their meal. So we unfortunately did NOT get to eat at the beach break grille during our stay on Hilton Head Island. But I would caution families considering dining at the beach break grille that my impression of this place from a fathers perspective is that it is nothing more that a whiskey bar that happens to serve food. This food may be amazing (or maybe not - I didn't get the chance to find out) but some families may not like the idea of taking their children into a stinky bar to eat.

Awesome service, awesome food, great local vibe, no mistake a local hangout and hideaway from the tourists. A gem on the island.

Didn't know what to expect when we walked into this "dive" with our little ones. This was the BEST meal we had on the island. No wait.. Walked right in. Great food and service at a great price! Philly cheese was great! My 6 and 3 year old loved it and cleaned their plates! Miss Ruth even came out of the kitchen to say hello to our girls. Be sure to ask her to come sing the "Tony Bologna" song to your kids. Our girls loved it!

What a great find! From the outside it looks ordinary but inside it's a different story. Friendly people and simply prepared delicious food. Some of the best rice and beans I've ever had. Try to come when chicken pot pie is on the specials. A great neighborhood place.

We went here after one 5 star review on yelp. The description says outdoor seating and kid friendly. Outdoor seating consisted of two small dirty tables right by the parking lot and I'm guessing what made them "kid friendly" was that they had one high chair. Not much else made it kid friendly. It is really a bar that serves a tiny bit of food. That said, the food was decent. I had the mahi with rice and beans. What actually made it good was this bottled sauce they brought to the table. My husband got the fried grouper sandwich. Almost anything tastes good fried. The kids pizza was kind of gross. It was just tomato sauce with white American cheese melted in top. You could still see the square shape. The bartender/waitress, while forgetting to bring my drink twice, made a decent gin and tonic. Could actually taste the gin. Definitely not 5 star like the other review said.

We went here after driving to the Sea Shack and found it wasn't open. This is a great alternative. The seafood is just as good here, and the prices are better.
